[영작문법#46] 주의해야 하는 전치사

 

 

주의해야 하는 전치사

because of VS. because 

because of는 전치사이므로 noun이 와야하며, because는 접속사이므로 S+V를 써야 합니다.

 

The school was closed because of the heavy snow.폭설로 학교가 폐쇄되었다.

 

The meeting was cancelled because it snowed a lot.눈이 많이 와서 회의가 취소되었다.

 

 

such as VS. such ~ as

such as를 붙여 쓸 수도, 띄어 쓸 수도 있습니다.His painting was influenced by such great artists as Michelangelo.그의 그림은 미켈란젤로와 같은 위대한 예술가들의 영향을 받았다.

 

Great artists such as Michelangelo flourished during the Renaissance.
미켈란젤로와 같은 위대한 예술가들은 르네상스 기간 동안 왕성히 활동했다.

 

 

in spite of VS. despite

in spite of와 despite 모두 전치사이므로 뒤에 명사와 결합하며, despite에 of를 붙이면 틀리므로 주의해야 합니다. 의미도 둘 다 "~에도 불구하고"로 같습니다.

 

He was admitted to the university in spite of his low GPA.

He was admitted to the university despite his low GPA.

그는 낮은 평점에도 불구하고 그 대학에 입학했다.

 

 

at+나이 = ~세에

At the age of 20 / At age 20 / At 20 / At 20 years of age

He became the mayor of the city at 20.

He became the mayor of the city at age 20.

He became the mayor of the city at the age of 20.

He became the mayor of the city at 20 years of age.

그는 20세에 그 도시의 시장이 되었다.

Air temperature changes from time to time. 

공기온도는 때때로 변한다.

 

Our shop is open from Monday to Saturday.

우리 가게는 월요일부터 토요일까지 문을 엽니다.

 

Nomads moved from place to place.

유목민들은 이곳 저곳 옮겨 다녔다.
