2021 미국 Best National Liberal Arts Colleges 순위와 학비

미국의 Liberal Arts College는 인문학/과학 프로그램을 중점적으로 제공하는 학부 중심 대학입니다.

 

하버드나 프린스톤 등 박사과정까지 제공하는 대형 대학들은 대학원 중심 대학들인데 반하여 Liberal Arts College는 학부 학생들 교육에 중점이 맞추어 있으므로 학부에서 양질의 공부를 할 수 있는 좋은 소형 대학들이 많이 있습니다.

 

이 학교들은 학생 수가 수백명에서 2000명 전후가 가장 많고, 3000명 넘어 가는 학교도 있지만 많지는 않습니다.

 

사관학교는 4000명 넘는 학교가 있지만 사관학교 외에는 그렇게 큰 규모로 운영되지 않는 소수 정예의 학교들이라고 보면 됩니다.

 

특히 College라는 이름이 붙어 있어서 전문대학을 연상하시는 분들이 계실텐데 미국의 College 개념은 2년제와 4년제 통틀어 부르는 이름이고, 여기에 올리는 Liberal Arts College는 4년제 대학입니다.

 

참고로 캐나다에서는 college는 2년제, university는 4년제로 다르게 불리고 있습니다.
