in (the) face of는 "~에도 불구하고(despite/in spite of)" 또는 "~에 직면하여(in the presence of)"의 의미로 사용됩니다.

 

두 가지 의미로 모두 사용되기 때문에 두 가지에 대한 예문을 아래에 들었습니다. 

 

face 앞의 the는 같이 쓸 수도 쓰지 않을 수도 있습니다.
