"in an attempt to"는 "~하기 위하여" 또는 "~하기 위한 시도로" 정도의 의미를 가집니다. 

 

 

"~하기 위하여"란 표현은 to부정사로도 가능합니다.

 

 

to부정사를 좀 더 formal하게 쓰고자 한다면 in order를 붙여 "in order to"를 사용할 수도 있습니다.

 

 

in an attempt to의 위치는 부사로 쓰이기 때문에 문장 중간이나 문장 앞 어디에든 쓸 수 있습니다.
